Jon is entering his third year in the role of Assistant Principal at Academy School. This is Jon's 14th year in the field, having served in positions from paraeducator, coach, special education teacher, behavior interventionist, and building administrator. He is a strong believer in the transformative power of public education and loves the opportunity to engage with all Academy students and their families on a daily basis.
Jon received a Masters degree in Special Education from UVM, and is currently a Doctoral student in the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at UVM. His research is focused largely around how schools can develop systems and structures that connect students with needed supports, including restorative approaches at the core of behavior systems. He believes that the purpose of school is multi-layered and he values any opportunity to embed teaching around kindness, empathy, creativity, health, exploration and hands-on activities along with academic instruction.
Outside of school Jon spends as much time as possible outside, usually biking or skiing, with his three young kids.
Kelly is thrilled to be the Principal at Academy School, where she attended grades K-4 herself! This is her 3rd year as Principal, and her 16th year in the field of education. Prior to becoming Principal, Kelly spent a year as Assistant Principal at Academy. Before that, Kelly taught a range of grades from K-8 in RI, MA, and at Vernon Elementary School and Oak Grove Elementary School. Kelly's favorite part of the day is greeting students and families in front of the building.
When she's not at school, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband, Dave, and her daughter, Adria; as well as her local family members. She also has two cats and a dog! Kelly loves to spend time outside- walking and swimming in the warmer months, and skiing in the colder months. She also loves to read! Kelly is so proud of the Academy School staff and family community, and she is looking forward to another great year ahead!
