School Summer Meals Update:

Dear Brattleboro area families - As you may know, since the school shut down in March the Windham Southeast School District food program has been able to provide daily meals to roughly 1500 students - a total of roughly 180,000 meals in all. The success of this program was due in large part to the commitment of our school's kitchen staff, bus drivers and hundreds of WSESD staff volunteers who worked tirelessly to make it happen. It's been a wonderful example of community solidarity, and has been a way for the school system to support our community in these challenging times.

As the school year comes to a close, we are continuing our commitment to providing healthy food daily to students across the district, regardless of need or financial standing. We would like to clarify some changes to the food distribution program that will take place:

Our current food delivery plan (a balance of buses and food drop sites) will end on June 19th. Starting June 22nd, we will enter into our Summer Meals Program. This will consist of the following:

  • We have identified 13 Food Sites around Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford, Putney and Vernon, which will serve breakfast and lunch at them daily (Note - we are awaiting word from the State about a waiver which would allow sites in Dummerston and Vernon to continue past June 30th).

  • In addition, we have identified 8 "Van Stops" around Brattleboro, at high density residential areas, at which a van will stop for roughly 10 minutes each day to distribute meals.

  • We will not have bus delivery service during this time.

  • Meals will be delivered Monday through Friday from June 22 - August 14.

  • Youth do not need to be present to pick up meals, but the meals must be for someone aged 18 or under

  • You do not need to attend a WSESD school to participate

If you would like to sign up for this program, complete this survey which will ask you to identify where you would like to get your meals. Please know that the times are estimates, and are likely to change as the program gets underway. We ask that you provide you email address so that we may easily contact you regarding program changes.

Our hope is that we can continue to meet the food needs of every student and family in our district. Please reach out if there are barriers to you getting meals at any of these stations or van stops, and we will help find a way to connect you with the school meals through the summer.
